What’s the word to all of our Planet Ill readers, supporters and other categories during this second week of Black History Month (the “officially recognized” Black History Month in the U.S. anyway) of 2010!
After digging out of a Raekwon-ian “Glaciers of Ice” snow scenario in the DC Metro area for the past few days, I’m definitely glad to get things somewhat back to normal with the latest weekly installment of Indiesent Exposure.
For those new to this section here at Planet Ill, Indiesent Exposure is where folks drop some quality music downloads & info from the independent music community who deserve more exposure and props for keeping their various genres lively & non-cookie cutter status .
Hopefully post by post here on Planet Ill, Indiesent Exposure will give your ears some temporary respite from some of the audio wackness, boredom and/or iCoonery that bombards the masses each day via the mainstream radio and TV airwaves definitions of Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, World Music, etc.
If you like what you hear in this section (some joints of which will hopefully be new to folks), PLEASE support these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to their shows, etc.
At the end of the day, music artists needs to eat like everyone else for putting in their work somewhere down the line.
Also at the end of the article is a detailed list & links of all of the past Indiesent Exposure articles for people to catch up on all of the quality FREE music downloads as reasons of why we covered these GREAT independent music artists.
Please check out everything below from these talented artists and the Planet Ill family know what you think when you get the chance – hope everyone enjoys the selections!
Let’s get into it:
Atlanta, Georgia’s FKi (aka Fly Kidz Incorporated; consisting of members Raye Rich and First), came to my attention via an e-mail from indie juggernaut Hip-Hop MC Mickey Factz & his GFCNY crew.
As both producers and MCs, the FKi crew puts out some pretty enjoyable music that fits into the realm of the newer wave of Southern Hip-Hop that incorporats Electro type music, kicking rhymes over some crazy production that ranges from from lighter House Music style action to some really dark clunky groove joints to a bit of Drum and Bass happenings and finally some “typical” style Hip-Hop for the region.
These young men (I think they’re just hitting the side of 20 or 21, at the present) have a nice things going on from what I’ve heard on this Blue Steel 2.0 Mixtape with not just with production, but their flows as well, which match perfectly with whatever is going down on each song.
This release includes a lot of their own solo work as well as guest appearances from Hip-Hop heads like Adam Tensta, Rick Ross, Slim Thug and more.
It good to see heads still wanting to push the boundaries of what creative Hip-Hop music is and still be able to grab the people on some non-hipster, organic type of vibes.
There are a lot of head nod joints on the Blue Steel 2.0 Mixtape as well as club bangers heads can bounce too on this release – just enough to keep folks interested and show that Fki isn’t pulling any one trick pony stuff here. I’m definitely curious to see what other works this group has jumping off in the future.
Check out more about what’s going down with Fki’s latest projects, videos, performances and such either over at their official MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/Fkimusic or official Twitter Page at http://www.twitter.com/Fkimusic.

Toronto, Canada representative Graph Nobel is a great singer, songwriter and MC who has been doing her thing for years in the indie music circuit.
Recently, she’s become most known as a part of the Idle Warship crew (the supergroup with singer Res and Hip-Hop MC Talib Kweli) or Fleetwood Black (a separate duo project with Res).
She’s been cranking out material through the years through both collabos (including those with Esthero, BrassMunk, Questlove of The Roots and The Clipse amongst others) and her own various solo music releases.
Graph Nobel’s Something 2 Die 4 EP dropped free on the ‘net a little while ago and shows a lot of the diverse musical influences she blends together effortlessly into her music (Rock, Electronica, Hip-Hop, Soul, Reggae, etc.).
With Something 2 Die 4’s songs ranging from spacey athmosperic dub landscapes to rock grooves to some lounge type House Music – Graph Nobel’s set of cool out music definitely isn’t too boring or so far out there you feel like you got off a bad acid trip- just a good vibe of grooves to lay back and enjoy.
Check out more updates on Graph Nobel’s music projects, tour schedule, and other goodies over at her official MySpace page, http://www.myspace.com/GraphNobel.
