What’s the good word Planet Ill Peoples!

It’s time for another week of Indiesent Exposure – the weekly writeup and music download piece here on Planet Ill that strives to give some deserved exposure to quality artists doing their thing independent music circuit.

Pretty much every music genre is covered in this section – Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, etc.- to keep things a bit lively & diverse.

Hopefully, we’ll give your ears a temporary break from some of the audio wackness and/or iCoonery that bombards folks each day via the radio and TV airwaves.

If you like what you hear (some of which will hopefully be new to folks), PLEASE support these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to shows, etc.

End of the day, they need to eat like everyone else for putting in their work somewhere down the line.

This week, the internet has blasted out a nice amount of quality free EPs and mixtapes of all sorts of music for folks to grab up – so for “Columbus Didn’t Discover A Damned Thing” weekend, I’m going to hit you with some audio goodness & heat to listen too. :)

Check out the music below from these talented artists & crews and let the Planet Ill family know what you think when you get the chance:

I’ve been a fan of the Funk/Soul British music group The Noisettes for a little while – from their their earlier EP Three Moods of the Noisettes to the current Wild Young Hearts album that just recently dropped & is well deserving of the critical and regular peoples praise that coming along.

Getting the word from my peoples The IPS from Tha Feedback on Twitter about the OkayPlayer project The Noisettes X Kanye West = Wild Young Heartbreaks that mixed their tracks with the instrumentals (and interpretations thereof) of Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak LP, it was time for an immediate download and listen.

I think it’s a pretty nice remix project and the producers who were a part did a pretty stand up job…what do y’all think?

Check out the original music from The Noisettes on their official website when you can over at http://www.Noisettes.net!

Seeing dope female Hip-Hop MCs – indie or in the mainstream – sometimes seems as rare as getting real grilled chicken at KFC (y’all KNOW it’s not real).

DC/NJ representative Ra The MC bucks that trend with abandon on both the mixtape and live performance ends (checking out the sis tear down the stage live at the Sneaker Pimps event in DC this year is what got me on her side in the first place).

In my personal opinion, she needs to get signed by someone on the mainstream distribution chain immediately.

“Trending Topics” is her latest mixtape project that just dropped on heads a few days ago – give it a listen and let folks know what you think…in the meantime, check out more of her projects and information over at her official website, http://www.RaTheMC.com.

Time to get some Rock ‘N Roll vibes jumping off….

I ran into the music of New York City crew Activator while hitting up the AfroPunk website (fans of Black Rock and hell, rock music in general should hit that site up when you can).

They say that Activator’s musical influences go from everyone from Prince to Gwar, and from Bad Brains to Slayer, which actually seems pretty accurate when you listen to the music – REALLY hard metal vibes with consistent drum grooves.

Grab up the Unfortunate Lovely EP and hit them up on their official MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/ActivatorWins.
