What’s the word to all of our Planet Ill readers, supporters and other categories during the first full week of Black History Month (the “officially recognized” Black History Month in the U.S. anyway – Black History occurs every day) of 2010 – hope the week’s been going well everyone so far!
It’s our regular time to get in the mix for another session of Indiesent Exposure, the weekly section here at Planet Ill where folks drop some quality music downloads & info from quality independent music artists all types of different genres who deserve more exposure and props for keeping their various genres lively & non-cookie cutter status.
Hopefully post by post here on Planet Ill, Indiesent Exposure will give your ears some temporary respite from some of the audio wackness, boredom and/or iCoonery that bombards the masses each day via the mainstream radio and TV airwaves definitions of Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, World Music, etc.
If you like what you hear in this section (some joints of which will hopefully be new to folks), PLEASE support these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to their shows, etc.
At the end of the day, music artists needs to eat like everyone else for putting in their work somewhere down the line.
Please check out everything below from these talented artists and the Planet Ill family know what you think when you get the chance – hope everyone enjoys the selections!
Let’s get into it:
Oddisee feat. X.O. – Black Broadway (Download)
The DMV’s (in particular Washington, DC & Maryland area) producer/MC Amir “Oddisee” Mohamed has been doing his thing major throughout the independent Soul & Hip-Hop circuit for the past few years.
Having worked with folks DJ Jazzy Jeff (the Magnificent LP and work in the A Touch of Jazz Studios), Talib Kweli, J-Live, Asheru, Little Brother, Freeway to his most recent solo works and the internationally critically acclaimed Diamond District project with X.O. & yU.
Oddisee’s diverse musical influences & grooves come from his family background with musical talents representing both his Sudanese and Black-American sides, with different styles of singers, guitarists, poets and lovers of Hip-Hop both doing their thing and exposing him to music via vinyl.
This music selection of “Black Broadway” is from Oddisee’s latest season-themed mixtape, Odd Winter (cop the free download here). Besides featuring some dope mic work & storytelling from Diamond District’s X.O., the nicely put together Soul & Go-Go Music sampled production from Oddisee’s boards gives the track a really soulful, head-nod ready kick.
Check out more about Oddisee’s work, tour schedule, music and more either over at his official MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/Oddisee720 or over his official blog at http://OddiseeMusic.blogspot.com.

Georg Levin – I Need to Understand (Download)
German singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Georg Levin has been putting out Dance, House and Electronica music throughout the past decade on various labels in the European Union, Japan and the U.S. for over the past decade.
From his solo singles and LP work with Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollektiv label, Georg has put out a solo album (2003’s Can’t Hold Back) and a group album (Wahoo’s 2007’s Take It Personal with DJ Dixon) with features that included House Music royalty like Robert Owens and Basement Jaxx.
He’s also done remixes for House Music folks like Louie Vega of Masters at Work, Kings of Tomorrow, Atjazz and more.
The Indiesent Exposure selection “I Need to Change” is from Georg Levin’s upcoming album dropping in March 2010 on the BBE label, Everything Must Change.
This track has kind of an early 1980s Hall & Oates kind of dance-y Blue-Eyed Soul vibe with the vocal interplay & hook changes meshing perfectly between the synth-ed out 4 on the floor mid-tempo drums, keyboards and other instruments that make it perfect for a chillin’ in the lounge or home vibe.
