It’s time for the latest Indiesent Exposure installment, Planet Ill’s weekly music column where I drop some FREE music downloads & info about quality independent music artists of different genres who deserve serious credit for keeping things lively and original in the music world.

Since 2004 (after getting the blessing of Dr. Cornel West to rock the name), Washington DC’s The Cornel West Theory has been wrecking shop with their high energy blend of Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, DC Go-G0 Music, Funk & spoken word. The In Her Hands: Embryo Capital Pt. 1 mixtape is a proper introduction into 6 man crew’s musical and political aesthetic.

Over 18 tracks , The Cornel West Theory achieves a commendable balancing act of not just keeping the audio end lively for listeners who just want to rock out to the beats (ranging from spare to lush landscapes) but taking care to drop the doses of straightforward social commentary in a way that isn’t shallow, preachy and boring as hell.There is a lot of passion, serious production and mic skills on display throughout all of the project that keeps things very engaging for anyone ready to grab a hold of this release.

For heads who mourn that masters of political Hip-Hop like Dead Prez, Public Enemy, Immortal Technique and others aren’t getting their due (or just like solid Hip-Hop music PERIOD), The Cornel West Theory’s creative contributions should immediately be a part of your soundtrack.

Objektiv One is a fly graphic artist, writer and producer who has been bubbling in Dallas, Texas for the past few years with both his original music creations and ill mash-ups.

He uses Jazz, Emo & Psychadelic Rock Music, Electronica and Downtempo music chunks as building blocks to make some really interesting multi-layered (and just plain toe-tapping funky) revisions of mainstream and indie Hip-Hop joints.

Throughout his catalogue, the average listener can really see he puts in a lot of work to craft his creations and not just be your average run-of-the-mill cat with an MPC in hand.
