And The Beat Goes On: Sheek Looch Has Great Taste and The Clientele Has Mad Swag

By shelz.

Music, regardless of how much you despise a certain piece, doesn’t have an expiration date.  It’s here and it’s here to stay.  Some music is like wine.  It’s not meant to be awesome right out of the vat.  It has to sit, settle and grow into its existence as something awesome. Not hearing it while the mic is still hot from the emcees breath is of no consequence.  And if you’re not planning on listening to it anytime after the day it was dropped then it wasn’t worth the hoopla to begin with… Hmph.

So there.  Some of the stuff below is new.  Some are months old, but if you haven’t heard it before, it’s new to you and just as exciting to listen to.  If you have heard it before and you like it, listen to it again.  It won’t kill you.  I’ve been listening to “Mushrooms & Roses” by Janelle Monae for weeks and it hasn’t harmed me in the least.

As a matter of fact, we will start with that.  It’s not a beat bite, but I run this when Odeisel has his back turned, so I can do what I want.

Moving on, we have Ras Kass laying down some bars over some of your favorite songs.  It’s a track medley running from Ke$ha to Biggie and picking up a few other folks in between.  We actually have that Chiddy Bang in here twice today so bravo to them for the looks.

Next, we have a dude from Motown who decided to spread some D-town knowledge over Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar.” This is from J. Keys mixtape The Dead Horse and it’s full of truisms about the root of all evil.  J covers the tension of not having those dollars and does so with one of the most revered up and comers in the game on the hook.  Look out for those good things.

Chiddy Bang is up with Jim Jones in tow on the “Opposite of Adults” official remix.  Why Jimmy? I don’t know, but I my kid has me loving this song since he plays the video so much.  He likes the big headed rappers. Jim is..well… he’s exactly what you would expect. Enjoy.

Freddie Gibbs is getting closer to real studio album release day, but is still getting the free stuff to the masses via his latest mixtape Str8 Killa No Filla. I’m not posting a straight up beat theft from the mixtape, but I am posting a pretty dope song with a clear nod to Pimp C that makes it even doper. Need a “Personal OG,” holla at Mr. Gibbs.

We never lost track of Young Chris but Neef Buck was fading from view for a minutes.  That’s water under the Roc bridge though because the Young Gunz are Back To Business in a serious way.  They still aren’t innocent of throwing some verses over somebody else’s ish and that somebody is Drake.  The Philly duo turn “Find Your Love” into a much less romantic affair and let everybody know they aren’t back to fall in love.

I promise you Straight Out The Jungle is the first Hip-Hop album I ever bought and “The Promo” was my favorite song on it so when I heard “Jungle Music” from Sheek Louch I promised myself I would stop referring to him as that other guy in D-Block. What’s he spittin about? I don’t know.  I was waiting for him to introduce Q-Tip to the world, but he never did.

Last we have a little something from the good folks over at the A.V. Club.  The Clientele covering M.I.A.’s Paper Planes sounds like a weird combo until you hear the song.  Then you realize it is a weird combo.  The violins replace the synth quite well though and the lead singer claiming hes swagged up is priceless. Until next week folks.
