Planet Ill Breakdown: Joss Stone – Take It All

By shelz.

Last we saw Joss Stone she was fighting with EMI over her 4th studio album, Colour Me Free.  She said they weren’t responsive to her artistic whims.  They said she was holding the master tapes hostage and you know stories like that rarely have happy endings.  Colour Me Free was well received by most critics, but the quality of the album failed to create any real sales and Stone and her LP faded away not too long after the CD hit shelves.

Since then she’s kept busy with a few acting roles which have served her well as Stone is slated to play Nicole Hunter, Bond Hottie,  in Activision’s new James Bond game,  James Bond 007: Blood Stone.

Not only is Stone playing a Bond girl in the 23rd edition to the James Bond series, she co-penned the theme song, “Take It All” with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame as well.  Oh, she sings it too.

If this was for a James Bond movie, I’d say what we have here is a snippet, but this might just be long enough to front a game.  It’s familiar in style, with its orchestral tidal wave of sound on the front end and during the chorus.  The Bond character is always an overstatement of manhood and his music isn’t any different.  Stone’s voice is just as big as the opening drum as she proclaims adherence to the mission is top priority, even over her life. How’s that for some Bond hyperbole?

“Take It All” is a return to the classic Bond aesthetic after that new school swing and miss Alicia Keys and Jack White gave us for Quantum of Solace. It’s epic and elaborate just like it’s supposed to be.  Hopefully the game will be just as grand.
