Planet Ill Breakdown: M.I.A.-Facefacefacebook

By shelz.

I’m not sure if y’all know, but MIA has been on a music leaking campaign for a while now.  For each single, she pops up on a new URL and the song is generally accompanied by some odd looping video.  I read somewhere that these were leftovers from her self-titled album that were produced by her ex-Diplo, but that’s just a rumor.  I think.

Anyway, this is number 4 or maybe 5 and since the flood doesn’t seem to be stopping, we figured why not join the party. This recent song is called “Facefacefacebook.”  Well, I’m sure that’s not the true title, but for lack of anything better that’s what everyone is calling it.  More than likely that’s just taken from the URL where the song was originally found.

The track kicks off with a Bhangra feel then moseys directly into the house realm.  The only “lyrics” for the first minute and a half are some ghostly la la las, so if you are big on vocals this song isn’t for you.  Even when MIA sing/raps through the remainder of the song, it’s just looped unrelated phrases.

I think the track is dope in a 1990’s Chicago house party kind of way.  MIA’s looped expressions are generally the type of vocals that would accompany that type of music.  It’s not club culture fare, nor is it anything you would listen to on a whim.  However, this tune would get a few tail feathers to shaking on House Night at the local club.

So grab your dancing shoes and your glow stick, it’s time to get down to MIA’s cutting room floor singles which in some cases are better than what made the album.
