Woosah is a term that conjures images of hood relaxation; trying to calm your nerves before you have to catch a case. Phoenix, AZ rapper RoQ’y TyRaiD (looks like it sounds like Rocky Tirade) is anything but calm flipping phrase after phrase with his song “Woosah.”
Eighties babies (and a few 70’s babies) can take delight in immediately recognizing the counting song 12345-678910-11-12 from the old school Sesame Street (or the Electric Company. It’s been a while) days before Elmo was allowed to talk, Snuffy was a figment of Big Bird’s imagination, and Kermit was pulling double duty with the Muppets and Sesame Street (hardest working puppet in the biz). The track, produced by DN3, features the scatting child-helmed refrain from the popular song playing the background to a lively drum effectively chopped to pieces by the producer. The break features a relaxing ”WOOSAAAAH” to bring home the meaning.
Mr. TyRaiD seems to have anger management issues. He’s mad at truck drivers, he’s mad at passersby. He’s angry at his home girl and mad that he’s broke and his anger increases as the song goes on, with him adopting any measure he can to get his woosah on, including “The Bible, a blunt, and a bottle of Tylenol.” His anger streaks have him running bicyclists off the road and snatching the heads off wack rappers, which is, of course, a public service. His flow is a bit close to Eminem’s in cadence and delivery if not tone so he would be careful if he wants to distinguish himself, especially if he’s going to rap about spazzing out.
The sun may be setting on Steve Nash and the crew, but it could be possibly rising on RoQ’y TyRaiD. If only he can keep that darned temper in check. Relax. Relate. Release. WOOSAH. Enjoy.
