The ascent of Consequence in the music industry has definitely been set to the slow track.  He’s been around for almost 15 years but has only managed to drop one album.  This dude refuses to give up though, much to the immense delight of his fans.  He has royal rap lineage (he’s Q-Tips cousin) and is one of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. artists.  With his sophomore release, CONS Tv, I’m sure he’s hoping the 2^nd time is the charm.  At the rate he’s going, he really doesn’t have time to wait on the third.

“Got Me Trippin (The Amerie Joint)” is the most recent release from his impending album and confirms what many of Cons followers say about him: he always brings the heat.

Q-Tip took Amerie’s biggest hit, broke it down and added some lounge-like keys, scratches courtesy of Statik Selektah and some slick cymbals.  It’s sporting a much more laid back vibe than the hyper Go Go of the original and  Amerie can still be found with vocal samples slathered on here and there. The final product is a jazzy, unexpected re-work that any lyricist would probably love to get their hands on.

Cons takes the track and weaves a common tale of female presumption and conjecture. She thinks he’s cheating.  She goes through his phone and finds something.  Anything is enough to start the ball rolling.  He admonishes her passive aggressive stance and tells her to put it on the table.  If I’m cheating, then tell me I am because what you’re doing right now is cause for termination and you don’t really want that pink slip.

Take that girlie!  It may not be what you wanted to hear but Consequence sounds great saying it.
