Consequence is dope. Most people that hear him acknowledge that. Unfortunately for some reason they also generally agree that for whatever reason, he just won’t blow up. He’s done his job though and to hear his effect on rap, all you need to do is look West. After the Q-Tip-produced banger, “The Amerie Joint” and a dope mixtape earlier this year, he’s got another heater on his hands with his latest, “Bearer Of Bad News.”

The J Dilla-produced track employs the same flute sample from The Soul Searcher’s classic “Ashley’s Roach Clip,” previously employed in Nice & Smooth’s “Down The Line,” Run DMC’s “Run’s House,  LL’s “Jack The Ripper” and Eric B &Rakim’s “Paid In Full.” The flute section serves as the intro while the rhythm section runs as undercurrent to deep note keys. There is also a low level siren beneath the composition.

Consequence flat out bodies this short and sweet piece with line on top of line  all interconnected and properly woven together. “Florence just died, cause I kill the flo(w) every time that I rhyme… I’m cool on the dumb chorus teach me how to Dougie? Teach me how to Doug Morris” His serious approach to construction makes this verse densely packs and you’ll have to pay close attention to catch everything, but it’s not overly erudite or above anyone’s heads to alienate. Natural, well-done lyricism.

You want to see people with this skill level prosper but you also realize that you don’t have to be center stage to cake in this industry. As far as I’m concerned he can keep dropping music like this and the real heads will keep consuming. Hate the be the bearer of bad news, but the Cons is going nowhere. Enjoy.
