deadmau5 And Imogen Heap Talk Telemiscommunications

By Odeisel

You know the Planet has been down with deadmau5 for a minute before everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Today for the first time, he sat down with Imogen Heap  face to face to talk about their upcoming project Telemiscommunications.  The duo got together via Google Hangout live for all the fans for a half hour, bringing the fans into an intimate setting made possible by the wonders of modern technology. The feel was almost like eavesdropping on a private conversation between deadmau5 who broadcast from SXSW and the Grammy winning Heap, stations in warm and sunny (brrrr) London.

To frame the creative process for the Telemiscommunications video, a global competition was set up to search for budding animators. 20 of which were selected to take ownership over their own segment, working in their own style and medium. These were then edited together to produce a remarkable video (Which we will bring to you below). Here’s the convo which is interesting in it’s natural, mundane normalcy, followed by the video.

Peace out Brussels sprouts

Telemiscommunications

Telemiscommunications is both minimalist and expansive, capturing the purity of human relations as it comes under assault from technology, the hustle and bustle of civilization. The video theme is perfect, as bodies in an airport try to carry on conversations with their loved ones at the hub of transportation where everything is seemingly in transition. View that phone call as your tether to humanity, grounding you in the face ofa world where everything is in motion. Noise attempts to drown out your connection. Imogen’s butterfly winged whisper of a voice has that razor sharp edge on the highs like a young Sinead, yet with less fire yet more warmth and subtlety if not possessed of the same brute force and dynamism.

It’s a beautiful song and an awesome video. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
