Shyne: You’re Welcome (Diddy Diss)

By shelz.

One thing I can say about Sean Combs is he has a wonderful knack for turning his back on folks that are short on credibility.  How many times have we heard someone bitch and moan about his tactics just to wonder about the true angle of the attack? Or better yet, how many of us have accepted that Combs is probably a crazy shady character and just don’t really care anymore? Or does his vast fortune insulate him from the jabs?  He doesn’t write rhymes, but that nigga can still write a hell of a check.

Well, I cant say the Shyne incident and the fallout since sit well with me.  There are certain things you do because it’s the right thing to do.  Sometimes narcissism gets in the way of that clarity.  But still, this song doesn’t sit well with me either.  Not that I take issue with his point of view.  I don’t.  He just sounds … sigh.

The track is fine enough I guess.  The slow thump and ghostly howl of the synth mark it as melancholy immediately.  Shyne could have growled, insulted and threatened for three minutes, but he didn’t.  He begs you close your eyes and turn out the lights so he can share his feelings on the cracked relationship and why he’s still unhappy.

It’s all so touching, but the delivery drags and he still sounds like he’s been gargling with Draino.  I suppose it’s the message that counts.  It’s a shame it comes from someone plenty in the Hip-Hop community don’t take all that seriously.
