Penn State Verdict: The Day The Niggers Mattered

By Odeisel

Finally, there shall be a reckoning. No more suppositions. No more wondering if there is a price for the lives of little Black boys. They aren’t collateral damage to be discarded in struggles of power between a football coach’s egomania and his ability to do what is right. Finally someone was “humane” to our children rather than a demon like Sandusky.

These children have been niggers their whole lives. Even the white ones. It’s that unfortunate condition that allowed them the be preyed upon by that savage. No fathers. No resources. By the will of God that demon won’t manifest another generation of predators, as is so often the case. Heaven knows how many molesters began as innocent victims.

But this isn’t about Joe Paterno and the lie that his holier-than-thou, honor over athletics spiel became. It isn’t about the failure of Penn State’s leadership to protect its integrity, reputation and student body. It isn’t even about he who doesn’t deserve to be named. This story is about how finally, there actually was a price to pay for infringing on Black life.

There isn’t a price tag you can put on crimes of this nature. Innocence is priceless and with technology and the sophistication of marketer conditioning children to become better consumers, kids don’t have much of a childhood any way. Each moment is precious and what that villain took can never be replace. $60 Million will go a long way towards helping some of those victims escape the poverty that made them so vulnerable. It will also go toward establishing programs that will address this kind of sickness and protect others in similar circumstances from falling prey to abuse. But finally, once the tally is taken, somebody paid for their crimes against our Black male babies.

We’ve been through Amadou Diallo. Oscar Grant. Shawn Bell. Countless times where the value of Black life was so nominal that there was no retribution for the spilling of Black blood. These lines blur often and even though many times, it’s more a poverty thing than a Black thing, the structure of this society often finds race and class overlapping. And our children don’t get to dream.

We have to sit down with our babies far too early and explain the consequences of being Black while in front of the police. We have to just sit there and take it when there are Tuskeegee experiments and Iran Contra incidents where our neighborhoods and families are destroyed. We’re still paying the price of losing a generation of able-bodied Black fathers and husbands to the Vietnam conflict.

Just this once, someone actually paid the price. Regardless of the NCAA’s motives or rationale, finally someone attached a cost to breaking the souls of Black folk. And someone else will actually have to pay it.  Niggers rejoice. Now about Trayvon Martin’s trial…
