BJ The Chicago Kid Feat Kendrick Lamar: The World Is A Ghetto

By shelz.

I’m a little late with posting this one, but I couldn’t stop listening to the song long enough to post it.  BJ the Chicago Kid, the mellow voice responsible for the R&B tinge of Kendrick Lamar’s “Kush and Corinthians” has dropped his own project, Pineapple Now Laters, for you Hip-Hopper’s consumption.  Lamar has returned the favor on BJ’s latest joint to hit the net from that release, “The World Is a Ghetto.”

I honestly didn’t remember this kids name from Section .80 so I hit up his Twitter page to check for some tidbits on his career.  One of the mentions in reference to this song was it sounded like something moms would play on Saturday morning while cleaning up.  That hit home because this is exactly what my mom played on Saturdays.

BJ’s track is a re-work of the classic WAR song of the same title; a record that spent a lot of time on the stereo in my parents house.  It’s classic slow burn funk with a serious message, exactly what Kendrick Lamar is becoming known for.  I miss the organs, but this is still a really great take on the song.  BJ’s delivery is husky and thoughtful enough to add weight to the lyrics.  It’s good enough to make the members of WAR and my mom proud.

Y’all take a listen while I head over to iTunes and pick up the album.  “The World is a Ghetto.”  Enjoy.
