Sometimes less is more and the minimalist beat on the slow rolling song perfectly matches the comber mood of “R.N.T.” an ode to fallen producer Anthony “Durty Keyz” James, who died last year from a bacterial infection called Streptococcus at the age of 23. Keyz was one half of Canadian production duo Burd & Keyz, and was in the middle of a project entitled Keyz of Life before his untimely loss.Partner, Anrew “Burd” Liburd, is taking up his cross and finished the album in respect for his late partner’s vision. The work is dropping in a few weeks and features cats that worked with Keyz during his run including Luu Breeze, Nickelus F, recent Raekwon signee, JD Era, SonReal, Blake Carrington, Shi Wisdom, A-Game, Omar Lunan, Promise,
Redway, Rich Kidd, Rochester and more. The album will serve not only as a testament to Keyz, but as a nod to the city he loved, his home city Toronto. This particular track is helmed by fellow Canadian producer Rich Kidd, someone the Planet is very familiar with, with scratches done by DJ Grouchy.
While the track’s name is a bit silly (Real Nigga Tears) the sentiment is genuine, the production appropriate and the video fitting. Keyz can rest knowing his legacy is in good hands.
