The Beastie Boys Want You To Make Some Noise

By shelz.

There was a snippet of this song floating around a bit ago and the 30 second sample I heard was from the middle, so I couldn’t make heads or tails of it really.  However, “Make Some Noise” is here in its entirety.  Are we amped?  Is it all us old ass Beastie Boys fans were hoping for?  Well, yes and no.

“Make Some Noise” weighs in with a retro track worthy of your best running man.  The mid-tempo foundation starts with someone giving their best digitized wah wah impression then rolls into a chopped and lopped presentation of that same digital pixilation.  Some drums and cymbals sandwich the melody and a peek-a-boo bassline crawls in underneath.

Instrumental breaks are full of scratches, cow bells and plenty of sound effects.  There’s a lot going on and there are sections in the breaks that will remind you of a couple of their previous songs.  So they aren’t blasting out of the box and giving you something new, but if you liked Check Your Head, you will like this.

There’s a lot of Beastie signature chest thumping here.  They are lethal on the mic and they can take down you and your posse.  The party doesn’t start until they get there and they are the ones who keep it hot. They even mention that the party is on the right and you have the right to fight.  Word to back in the day.

Aging like fine wine they say.  I have to agree.  So get your black leather vest with all the silly flaps and pockets and black on black leather Timberland’s (yes, that’s what you were wearing back then) and nod your head to this time capsule of a song.  Or better yet, “Make Some Noise.”
