Lil Wayne Really Hates Love…Really

By shelz.

The cliché goes, “It’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.”  From a pragmatic view, outside looking in, that makes complete sense.  But when you are in the process of losing something you’re sure you can’t live without, those words are an offensive verbal assault.  Insomnia, loss of appetite, swollen eyes and a nose raw from tissue are what await you and Lil Wayne’s latest leak, “I Hate Love,” sounds exactly like how that feels.

The atmospherics are no more than the hovering dark cloud, the distorted guitar is the anxiety that ebbs and flows through your chest and the kettle represents that pounding tension headache that a whole bottle of Tylenol couldn’t chase away.  Dramatic? Yes, but so is being kicked to the curb by the love of your life.

Wayne’s depression comes across pretty clear as he wishes death upon himself and a resurrection straight to his lover’s worst nightmare. She said she loved him.  She said forever and he believed her.  From this point on, there is just darkness and stoicism.  Ole girl took his heart with her.

This track is supposed to be from the Carter IV sessions, but it sounds more like Rebirth.  So if you’re not a fan of rock and roll Wayne, this won’t be your cup of tea.  But this track heaves with emotion.  It’s well constructed and does exactly what it sets out to do, and that’s pull you into Wayne’s emotional turmoil.

“I Hate Love.”  Enjoy.
