CeeLo Green material comes as fast and furious as anyone else’s these days and I’m not complaining. Regardless of what style he chooses to work in the studio, it normally yields something awesome. (Funny, as I’m typing this up I get an email that reads, “CeeLo is dating Rihanna.”) Stranger things have happened. Maybe his latest song will reveal a few clues about how he made that a reality. Not that I believe rumors of course, says the ex Illseed assistant.
“Robot Sex” seems to have just appeared out of nowhere, but CeeLo does mention he’s a Lady Killer on the track so I’m going out on a limb and saying this is from the Lady Killer sessions. It definitely has that retro disco feel, with the sweeping strings and funky bassline. The 70’s construction is tweaked on the bridge with some modern detail, but this song sounds like Studio 54 and coke spoons.
The lyrics are about what most of CeeLo’s lyrics are about these days; putting it down in the bedroom. She doesn’t want that same old boring maneuvering you offer your regular pop tarts. She needs a human touch; something tailored to her needs, like a good suit. So get it together yo, or else she will tell all her girls you’re a waste of a long night. He didn’t say that, I did.
“Robot Sex” sucks, especially if you don’t. The song is cool though. Enjoy.
