Planet Ill Breakdown: Heavy D Feat. Anthony Hamilton- I Can’t

By shelz.

The not so heavy Heavy D has put down his latest script for a second to pick up a mic and transport us back to the days of Peaceful Journey with “I Can’t”.  Anthony Hamilton rides shot gun in this tale of grown folks relationships; the ups and downs and all the compromise and sacrifice that goes into keeping your twosome from turning into a onesome.

You make him smile and he thinks you’re incredible, but that doesn’t stop him from acting foolish every now and then.  As a matter of fact, he acts foolish a lot.  Then when you call him on it, he claims it wasn’t him, even though you both know he’s lying. This cycle repeats itself year after year, but you still hold on hoping one day he’ll change or lose a limb (and you know which leg I’m talking about.)

Wooooooosah.

Anyway, the song has this kind of summer time, top down feel to it.  The bassline is standard but the reason we hear it so much is because it works.  Heavy’s voice is as smooth as ever. His delivery is just as warm and conversational.  Anthony adds that soulful touch that boosts almost every song on which he is featured. The only issue outside of the song’s lack of originality is that odd, out of synch drum.  Take a listen and you will understand what I’m saying.

It’s Heavy D people. Enjoy. And don’t curse.
