Chris Brown Busta Rhymes And Lil Wayne Each Invite You To Look At Me Now

By Odeisel

Despite every attempt at self-destruction he could possibly haphazardly fall into, the Chris Brown comeback train is chugging ahead at full-speed. He’s on TV he’s on Twitter, he’s dancing in the rain with kids climbing up mountains. And he drops mixtapes. Like Trey Songz, the desire to rap can’t be ignored but at least Breezy is smart enough to get help. Hip-Hop heavyweights Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne allow Brown to talk much junk like Mr. T is his back on “Look At Me Now.”

The track is a minimalist beat that allows for both fast or slow flwoing, as illustrated by the speeds of the people on it. Synth sirens blare atop lows while ambient bleeps and space noises accent a running snare.

Chris Brown opens the song with the traditional I’m in the club, you out the club talk. He got a yellow hottie, he got a yellow bottle (he didn’t get the Jigga No Cristal memo) and he’s got a yellow Lamborghini (hope there are not potholes on the road). And yes, the top is off like a toupee (corny drop top allegory, check). Ladies love him like Mr. Smith, he’s getting money and that about covers it. His high speed rap would be cute if it wasn’t annihilated by Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne.

Busta Rhymes furthers his reputation as the greatest guest rapper of all time and arguably the best high-speed rapper. He’s the fastest understandable rapper ever and the only one who can alter and bend his flow around different rhyme scheme constructions without losing speed or delivery. Twista may be faster, but he’s nowhere near as versatile or as skilled. Busta goes all over this employing a stutter device as well as a repeating hitch, pausing to give nods to the Chili Peppers, his own cockiness and he’s doing rappers “so foul they gotta call a ref.” If Bussa Buss ain’t on your list you may have drank too much from the yellow bottle.

Wayne bats cleanup with his best performance, post-pen. He wastes no words going in from the onset, dum, stupid, Three sSooges and a ton of other allegories to how crazy he gets on the mic in rapid succession as soon as he’s passed the baton. If you ain’t know he got Lauren London creaming for him in the Jacuzzi, he got a house with an elevator and a bunch of other fly shit. Look at him now because in a few he’ll be so far ahead of him you’ll need a telescope.

The two guests on “Look At me Now” make this slow paced track into a high speed chase that is already in the running for one of the best collaborations of 2011 and the year just started. See if I’m lying. “Look At Me Now.” Enjoy.

  1. Great breakdown as always. I suggest the beginning of rating songs as well, cos sometimes I cant seem to grasp the overall assessment of your opinion. You like the song or not or just meh?

  2. Chris and Jigga aren’t friends. It’s safe to say Chris doesn’t listen to people older than him and Jigga is old as Chris’ own father. I think anyone would be overshadowed if Busta did that on their track. Maybe if Chris sang it wouldn’t matter. I don’t think thought that Wayne was way better than Chris because I thought his verse when he got quick was quite good but too short. As an aside, I think one of the reasons Chris hurts himself with the twitter crap is his lack of care for any of it. Maybe even for himself. Word is he took real good care of his money before the Grammy assault night. An old friend of mine is rich and around his age…..sad really. I hope he gets the help he needs. I like his music too much to see him become the next Courtney Love. I feel like my last few sentences can be about Kanye. They both have the maturity of 10 year olds with slight brain damage. But their talented! Lol.

  3. i love that song but he raps to fast for me but it goes hard an u an lil wayne r the best
