And The Beat Goes On: Drake Goes Topless, Busta Goes H.A.M. And Bobby Ray Goes To The Strip Club

By shelz.

Another week is gone and Planet Ill is here with a new dose of tracks marked down to free with that five finger discount. Before we get started, I have to express my concern for all of these famous and quasi-famous folks having their private lives and in some instances…their privates splashed all over the net.  It’s all so tawdry and sloppy.  If this is what you get when you become rich and famous, I’ll count being broke and unknown as a blessing.

First, some texts leaked that were allegedly personal exchanges between Fantasia and her married, but possibly separated boy toy Mr. Cook.  I’m curious how Fantasia is texting people if she can’t read.  Excuse me for missing her triumphant run at a GED if that indeed happened.  Also, how are people reading these and giggling considering what’s lurking in their text threads?  Let me hold your phone. Uh huh, that’s what I thought.

Then there is poor Mr. Drake.  I’m just so miffed at how his image has gone from sugar to shit so quickly.  Now Charlamagne The God is posting topless pictures of him?  CTG being in possession of those photos is a head scratcher in itself.  But even so, what’s wrong with them?  You’ve never seen a picture of a dude with his shirt off?  So what if his pecs are a little squishy and his package is bucking for some attention.  Let’s see yours baby.  Uh huh, that’s what I thought.

Alright, enough of Fannie’s texts and Drakes pecs, let’s get to some music.  First up we have Dondria, JD’s latest attempt at rehabbing his own waning fame. Miss Phat Phat threw a little something something over Chris Brown’s “No Bullshit.” She really does have a beautiful voice and when provided with good material, she shines.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen much.

Next is Rihanna’s “S&M” but this time she has J. Cole in tow. It’s a great canvas for a young rapper, a license to be as nasty as he wants to be.  In that regard J. Cole disappoints a bit.  No nasty bits, just some generic bars.  Maybe this particular project intimidated him.  He could have stepped up the sexy quotient with this one.

Avery Storm, the guy who knocked out the hook on Rick Ross’ “Here I Am,” has been trying to prove that he can hold a song down all by himself for years.  He might be able to, but he doesn’t prove it here. His cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” is very karaoke.  It’s not for a proper album, I know.  But he needs some tweaking.

Now we have Busta going “H.A.M.” and offering you the opportunity to lick on his package.  The clip of Mr. Rhymes manhandling Kanye and Jay’s beat is short, but he manages to fit 3 minutes worth of rhymes into that little space.  Busta is still nimble and quick.  He’s still funny and dramatic and his freestyle puts Jay and Ye to shame.

Last but not least we have B.o.B. finding himself on the Travis Porter song that keeps popping up even though it’s run its course already.  Okay, maybe “Make It Rain” hasn’t totally fizzled out, but a girl can dream can’t she? Bobby is animated, which is an enjoyable change of pace from the usual jaded strip club ramblings of young men. I just can’t deal with that chorus so I didn’t listen to the rest.  If it’s hot, let me know.
