It’s been 13 years since Diddy’s last dance with Christopher Wallace. The only guy he ever played #2 to in front of a camera, Biggie was made larger than life, and Mr. Combs was more than happy being a satellite in that orbit. As the years went by he forged his own star and even got his own #2, but it wasn’t the same. The House that Puff built, on the backs of volatile, vulnerable personalities crumbled and while he still flourished, his Bad Boy label and his reputation with artists would forever carry a taint.
Then a funny thing happened. He found Biggie 2.0 (harder in persona, more sophisticated, less talented and skilled) in Rick Ross and Kim 2.0 and suddenly, it’s 1995 2.0 in 2010. The check writer happily dances his ass back to #2 while he extends his 15 minutes of ever-so-slowly ticking fame with his new Ross-driven group, Bugatti Boyz. The newest single and video “Another One” puts that dynamic on full display, perhaps delaying that last train to Paris for a road trip in a fast whip.
Diddy, with gold fronts on display (yes he’s too old for that, yes he gets away with it cause he’s Diddy) draped in multiple MCM jackets (Shout to Dapper Dan) and ice shining in the dark, enough Ciroc to keep you drunk while reading every last page of the last wikileak and, of course, the Bugatti. Don’t worry about it you can’t afford it anyway. And if your worked for it, you probably wouldn’t buy it. Diddy talks ‘nuff junk like Mr. T is his back, but in this case, its mammoth Rick Ross, beard, bulk and all providing the muscle and the menace.

The beat is standard snare drum escalation with brusque, rapid-fire thump and pretty much any element you’ve heard in any Lex Luger crafted song of the past year. You can hear in Diddy’s cadence and delivery the hand of Ross’ writing but it’s not shocking and Diddy delivers with his own brand of swanky Swagger. Ricky bats cleanup to push the track home; another hit in the books; a prelude to a probable album and Diddy has a new horse under the hood to rev that Bugatti up. He thought he told you that he won’t stop. Here’s “Another One.” R.I.P. Biggie Smalls.
