Tabi Bonney has been making subtle but significant moves in the past few months leading up to his impending November release. His African by way of DC flow has garnered him increasing respect and a growing number of alliances, this time with Kanye’s newest G.O.O.D boy and fellow DMVillian, Pusha T. Together they drop the simple, yet potent collaboration, “Make A Killin’.”
The horns are similar in construction to that classic Outkast classic “Damn James.” Funky wah-wah guitar licks push forward the slow roasted momentum with maracas adding a bit of spice. The slow, plodding bassline carries a distinct rhythm that lends itself easily to the slow flow that both rappers employ, complete with a simplistic yet infectious rhyme scheme.
Bonney lets you know off the bat that the mundane is not whats up and he ain’t trying to make a living, he’s here to make a killing. His relentless drive and the team he put together is built to win and win now. He’s not trying to be your friend but he’s training for the championship. There isn’t much depth in either verse and running allegory to sports that connects to his theme of winning.
Pusha T as usual is buying out every bottle at the bar to spite the baby ballers and wasting money on frivolous shit because he’s pushing weight and getting fast money. He’s going to boxing matches in Lamborghinis, wearing minks with ridiculous chains, dying to get snitched on by people who aren’t getting money like he is. It sounds like American Gangsta’s final act unfolding as show off shit leads to getting caught up with the feds, but Pusha’s enjoying obnoxious affluence to such a high degree that he doesn’t care .
“Make A Killin’” is a nice bit of momentum for Bonney and a bit of a treadmill run for Pusha Ton. Just enough to get you to bob your head and go who’s the dude rapping with Pusha, if you aren’t hip. Don’t lunch, young. Make a Killing. Word to Wayne Perry.
