Rick Rozay aka the artist formerly known as Rick Ross dropped off some new music via Twitter last night and Planet Ill was standing post to scoop it up.  Jamie Foxx is driving on the new song, “Living Better Now” with Bawse riding shot gun, but I’m not sure if this will be featured on Jamie’s new album.  Hell, I don’t know if Jamie Foxx is even going to have a new album.

The Beamer Benz or Bently-ness of the track is going to be pretty obvious for starters.  The thick, plunging bass and electro trip up and down a synthetic xylophone was pounded into Hip-Hop’s collective consciousness by Banks and the 328 artists who contributed to the 98 remixes. (I fudged those numbers, but I’m sure I’m pretty close.) But in this producer’s defense, the tracks are different.  The progression on that shivering sliver of synth in “Living Better Now” is totally different. Plus there is a drum break and a welcome Biggie sample. Oh and no Juelz.

Foxx finds himself on the breathy lower half of his range.  He goes all sexy man on us, explaining to his tart du jour that she needs to call her boss and let him know she’s not coming in because he’s going to break her off. (People still say that?)  She deserves it, plus he has money.  Is there a better reason to give up the cookies?

Sigh.

Ross brings his confidence and that gruff delivery we’ve come to expect.  He spins his lines around the money man concept as good as anyone. Every time I wonder if I’ve heard the very last “I’m ballin” metaphor, Ross creates a new one.  It’s a staid concept, yes.  However, Ross maintains inventive lyricism within a pretty beaten to death theme.

Is it good?  I’ve heard better.  The track is very reminiscent of something we just got over being sick to death of and Jamie as sexy man doesn’t always work.  Unlike Ross he hasn’t figured out that there is more than one way to tell a girl to get naked.  If I was her,  I would just go to work and keep my cookies to myself.
