Indiesent Exposure: DJ Rob Swift Carries The Torch For Hip-Hop

By DJ Fusion

What’s up to all of the Planet Ill crew!

It’s that time again for your weekly Indiesent Exposure installment of FREE quality music downloads & info about Independent Music artists of different genres who deserve serious credit for keeping things lively & non-cookie cutter status in the world of music.
Indiesent Exposure is set to give your ears some temporary respite from some of the daily audio wackness, boredom and/or iCoonery that bombards the masses through the mainstream radio’s definitions of Hip-Hop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, World Music and more.
If you like what you hear & download up in this section, PLEASE support (monetarily and otherwise) these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to their shows, etc.

This week’s Indiesent Exposure runs us through the New York City borough of Queens for one of the more slept-on facets of Hip-Hop in the mainstream music realm lately – turntablism.

Whenever you have the chance, please let all of the talented Indiesent Exposure artists and the Planet Ill crew know what you think of the music in our comments section!

Let’s get it in – download, sit back, relax & hope you enjoy the grooves:

Jackson Heights’ own Rob Swift has been an integral part the Hip-Hop scene through his solo works and as a member of the legendary turntablism crews The X-Ecutioners and Ill Insanity.

He’s collaborated with a huge amount of independent and mainstream MCs, producers and musicians throughout his 20+ year career, most recently working with Electro/Noise Rock project Peeping Tom.

He’s consistently finds a way to keep things interesting yet rocking in his releases, throwing a curve ball to the listeners who think they know everything to expect from his decks and MPC.
Rob Swift’s latest album project (out now), The Architect, is a prime example of that.
Instead of using Jazz, Soul, Rock, Disco or Soundtrack Samples, Rob Swift truly takes it back, waaaay back, back into time with his foundation blocks of sonic boom – Classical Music. The traditional NYC Hip-Hop Boom Bap sound is in effect while you get a fly blend of scratches, creatively chopped up sounds and more expertly structured in the mix of lush symphonic sounds.
It is refreshing to know that you’re not going to hear the 1000th dry flip of a worn out sample at all throughout the release.
The Sketches Of The Architect EP is a free collection of uncompleted songs and ideas from The Architect’s album recording sessions that also includes a great 9 page PDF file that explains Rob Swift’s influences on the project and how it’s affecting his current music.
The songs and snippets can solidly stand either as individual instrumental pieces on their own or the next “produced by _________” track on your indie MCs upcoming mixtape.

Without a doubt after checking out the EP and The Architect full-length, Rob Swift’s musical output continues to show him as a high grade Hip-Hop technician who’s able to deftly balance out the roles of party rocker DJ, skilled turntable instrumentalist and multi-faceted producer with satisfying sonic results.

DJs, producers, jaded Hip-Hop listeners and more – put on your headphones (or turn up your speakers), listen to the music, soak it in and take notes on The Architect’s sketches.
