Ill Side Radio Podcast 10/30/2010: Top 10 Lists, CMJ Showcase, The Demise Of Hip-Hop Outlets

By Odeisel

This week’s edition of Ill Side Radio hones in on all the various lists generated by the different media outlets, and the MTV Top Rapper list in particular. We go through each pick and discuss the merits of each pick and any omissions. Is there any actual merit to a list that chronicles “hotness?” We discuss that in detail and come up with answers that may surprise you.

We review the Audible Treats CMJ showcase which went down last week in New York City. We take a look at the difference between a rapper and an emcee and what those determinants mean in reality.

We also remember Eyedea and Andre “Hud 6” Hudson who recently met with unfortunate early deaths. We also shout out the demise of Squeege Radio, whose last show ran a couple weeks ago on Columbia University’s radio station in New York. We discuss the demise of a few Hip-Hop outlets and whether or not it’s a tragedy when these elements go out. We briefly touch on the young NBA season and the coming November elections.

We’re currently looking for beds (the music you hear in the background while we’re talking) so if you’d like to get your music heard on Ill Side Radio, forward all submissions to Square One at mybsideblog@gmail.com in mp3 format.
