Welcome to the first edition of IllSide Radio. The Planet, along with Chicago’s own Square-1 of B-Side Radio, have joined forces to bring you the week in review in Hip-Hop and current events, along with the occasional special guest and some music to keep you moving through your day.

This week’s episode features two guests. Gary Indiana’s Freddie Gibbs has been hailed in many circles as the future of gangsta rap. His gritty street tales convey life on the mean streets and the options that people choose to get out of those streets or to delve further into them. What gives Freddie an edge is that he also addresses the ills that make the streets so cold in the first place. We get a good look at what motivates Gibbs and what he has coming down the pipeline.

Also on the guest list is Fish Scale of Nappy Roots. We talk about the group’s pioneering music, about being among the first to work with Kanye West, Jazzy Phae and Anthony Hamilton. We talk about the differences between being on a major and being independent, and about the group’s upcoming projects. We close out with Fish Scale’s predictions for the upcoming NBA season.
