If you live in New York or the Northeast in general you know about to winters. Noreasters can dump snow on you in a hurry. In the 80’s The Triple Fat Goose line got hot in a flash with goose down trench coats with fur collars and other winter wear totally capable of keeping you warm when the hawk was out. The streets even co-opted Cool C’s “Glamorous Life” to include mention of the brand.
But just as fast as you find favor with the fashion fickle, you can fall out of it. After a couple seasons on top, the streets sought other brands to push and the infamous interpolation “What’s that ooon you back? Can’t believe it’s a Triple Fat” got hot and suddenly the brand was not.
In this era of movies and music borrowing heavily or flat out returning to the 80’s there’s not a more fortuitous time for an 80’s fashion brand to re-emerge and Triple Fat Goose is taking full advantage. This week as part of Fashion Week 2010, Triple Fat Goose unveiled its Fall/Winter 2010 and Spring/Summer 2011 ready- to-wear collection at a private runway show after 15 years away.
Gone is the bulky basis of its previous incarnation and its place stands a bit of urban chic, with denim, cardigans, sweaters, hoodies and of course the winter coat. The line is now also accommodating females with edgy, gritty apparel. The original logo is still in full effect, but added to the line are new fabrics and patterns that reflect current fashion while giving a nod to Triple Fat Goose’s history.
The show, hosted by New York legend Raph McDaniels and MTV’s Sway, was held at Chelsea Piers’s Pier 59 and was packed with fashionistas, industry taste makers, and Fashion Week revelers sipping champagne, rocking to the latest mainstream Hip-Hop and popping flashbulbs at the models.
