How long has it been? One year, maybe two? Young Buck was tossed out of G-Unit unceremoniously and the masses were notified by 50 via a phone call to a radio station. The young one responded with a handful of “f*ck G-Unit”s at a show and then 50 released the weepy phone call heard round the world. Buck recorded a couple of diss records afterwards, but they couldn’t compete with the noise that taped conversation made. There were plenty of jokes from the peanut gallery; folks quoted Buck’s sniffle-laden comments for months. Then it all just went away, with the general understanding that Young Buck’s career was a done deal.
He was a small bleep on the radar last year, turning heads for rumors about his lifestyle more than anything related to his music. However, when the clock strikes 12 on any given January 1st, you know folks are all about resolutions and new intentions. We all create year long to do lists, set goals and say this year will be “the” year. I guess Buck is no different. There have been 4 songs in the last six days. Only he knows if it will continue, but so far so good.
The overwhelming theme of the first three drops was his disdain for 50 and them. It’s an eyebrow raising, shoulder shrug inducing idea considering the time that has elapsed and the fact that 50’s career is in some turmoil right now. Or maybe that’s exactly it. Kicking a man when he’s down is a lot easier than trying to tackle him when he’s running full speed. However, it’s not the best way to re-introduce yourself to the community.
Anyway, the most recent addition to Buck’s musical assault on the net happily had nothing to do with 50, or Yayo or Banks. All of the songs have been solid, so if Buck continues without reminding people of why he disappeared in the first place, there may be some hope for him. Enjoy.
“Happy New Year”
Young_Buck-Happy_New_Year-2dope
What the f*ck is 50 Cent is what Jigga said. Look at yourself. Even now I’m digging up the dead.
Sounds like even Buck is a little confused about why he’s bothering with this. The slow, soulful thump of this song is perfect for the subject matter; suggesting that somehow his friend’s death gave him a renewed sense of revenge. Good but unnecessary.
“Steroidz”
I know them G-Unit n*ggas is irrelevant and all, yall.
There is the disclaimer. However, Bucks mention of his contract, which last I checked was still held by 50 is probably why Buck is still a little raw about these cats. He also mentions something about 50 being around when JMJ was murdered and he said “worser.” Sigh..
“Do It For Ya”
For every record that you sell, I got a bullet for you.
Even though Buck did say he was going in on everybody connected to G-Unit previously, he retires his desire to fluck with Beans on this song wisely. He amps up the anger, pulls out the guns and suggests 50 is a bad tipper.
“Court Date”
No 50. None. Not a bit. Nope. The track is dramatic and so is the story. It’s all paranoia and playing chess with the cops prior to a looming court date spawned from getting caught moving mad weight since he couldn’t rap to feed his kids. I guess buying into the truth of this track is irrelevant, it’s Hip-Hop.
Only time will tell if this flood of new material will save Buck from rap’s great beyond. The Hip Hop community can be very forgiving. I guess The Rehab is going to surface sooner or later and Buck said it would move a million copies in a week. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that’s probably not going to happen. But if Buck continues releasing songs of this caliber, it will be worth taking a listen to.
