Out of Bounds: NFL Week 1

Planet Ill Kickoff BannerBy Hot Rod! The Rowdy One

The NFL continues their Kickoff 2009 celebration with a slew of games lined up for this weekend. We’ve gotten through the first game of the season and what a game it was. Overtime suckas. It was solid defensive game for both teams. Although many people thought it was a boring game, the defenses we saw on Thursday Night are the type of defenses that win championships. If both the Steelers and Titans continue to play defense as they did on Thursday night, we just may see them playing in January.

Speaking of January football, for the first time in the history of Out of Bounds, Rowdy-damus will give his predictions for the playoffs. However, before we get into that, let’s look at the picks for the rest of the Week 01 match-ups.

Out of Bounds Game of the Week:

Miami Dolphins (0-0) vs. Atlanta Falcons (0-0)

Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA

My Pick: Falcons

As I mentioned in Thursday’s write-up, both of these teams turned their seasons around last year with playoff berths. Can they keep the magic going? We’ll have to wait and see. However, in my eyes, I think this is the most competitive game this weekend.

Both teams have very explosive offenses and their defenses are even keel. The Dolphins were able to adopt the Wildcat offense with much success while the Falcons use a good mix of run and pass to turn their season around last year. In addition, both teams came into last season with a new attitude and new sense of directing with the hiring of new personnel for each team. So why go with the Falcons in this game?

The Falcons have better offense in this game because of their mix of run and pass. Teams will eventually catch on to the Wildcat offense and be able to snuff it out before it even gets the chance to progress on the field. Also with Matt Ryan emerging into a solid quarterback, Michael “Burner” Turner coming out of the backfield, and the other “Hot Rod”, “Rowdy” Roddy White at wide receiver, the Falcon’s offense may be too much for the Dolphins’ defense to handle. It also helps when you get a record breaking and eventual Hall of Famer at tight end in Tony Gonzalez added to your offense.

Denver Broncos (0-0) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (0-0)

Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH

My Pick: Broncos

Minnesota Vikings (0-0) vs. Cleveland Browns

Sunday, 09/13/09, 8:20pm

Chicago Bears (0-0) vs. Green Bay Packers (0-0)

Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI

My Pick: Packers

Monday, 09/14/09, 7pm

Buffalo Bills (0-0) vs. New England Patriots (0-0)

Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA

My Pick: Patriots

Monday, 09/14/09, 10:15pm
