Mixtape Madness: Yo Gotti – The January 10th Mixtape

By Odeisel

Yo Gotti is heading back to the kitchen to drop that raw on January 10th.  The album, Live From The Kitchen, marks his first major label release and a departure from his indie history. This tape  according to Gotti on the first track is strictly for the fans. To keep you sated until he drops, he’s done you the favor of hitting you with Cocaine Muzik Presents Yo Gotti’s January 10th: The Mixtape. With the lackluster returns of T.I. and Raekwon, as well as Fabolous’ Christmas flop, this marks the fourth opportunity for the streets to be satisfied with that butter.

The tape is full of what fans check Yo Gotti for, rugged street tales and gritty Trap Music. Baby momma gone now you can’t see the kid, street struggles, the regular trials and tribulations of the streets. His band is baking soda, Pyrex pots, the hard white and those choppers. There are elements of Jeezy and Ross in a few of the rhyme schemes. The 808’s are there and off-beat rhythm is there along with some rhyme scheme experimentation. Juelz and Gucci Mane show up as guests and a couple tracks appear by Zed Zilla and Sylver Karatz (who really really can’t rap) on  “Fire Dat Bitch” and “Kill Dem Hoes”. Those ain’t exactly femme friendly but I digress. The horror music pianos and heavy brass are there in full effect.

If the trap ain’t your lane then you would be bored with this but if you are at least amenable to that sound, then this tape is solid and you’ll bump it a few times in anticipation for his album. The January 10th Mixtape. Trappin and rappin got a bit more mileage left.
