And The Beat Goes On: Meek Makes It Rain, Joell Makes It Burn And T. Shirt Just Makes It

By shelz.

It’s been a busy week folks, for both music and musicians.  So before we get to our weekly look at all things sonic and stolen, let’s look at a few things that happened this week I found horribly amusing.

Anyone who thinks the word “nigger”should be removed from Huckleberry Finn.

Yes it’s used quite a bit and yes, it’s pretty offensive.  However, I can’t say until now I’ve ever heard anyone complain about its presence in literature.  I have an idea.  If you don’t like it, don’t read it.  Wait.  You haven’t.  Never mind. Bottom line is, if it comes out of that book, it’s coming out of all of them.  Then your favorite rap song will be up on the chopping block. Didn’t Uncle Luke fight this battle already? *Sigh

That dude who built the vibrabomb, the Cono Bomber

If you didn’t catch it, a man was arrested this week after his former female roommate uncovered his plot to kill her, which consisted of giving her a dildo with a bomb inside of it.  Looks like there IS a woman whose pussy can keep a man off the streets literally, because well… he’ll be in prison for blowing up the spot…ummm… literally.  Sorry Keri Hilson, it’s not you.

Every dude who said hell yeah when they heard Nas’ alimony/child support payment was cut in half.

He still has to pay 25k a month.  If you think that’s cool, hit me up.  I’m free on Monday.

Alrighty folks, enough of the week in nonsense.  Let’s get to week in freestyles.  First up is Meek Mill with “Make It Rain.”

Meek Mill is nasty and ripe for censorship. Okay, I’ll leave it alone, but keep playing and your constitutional right to listen to Meek Mill tell a hoe to vacuum cleaner him could be in jeopardy.  Mill is hot and cold to me.  Sometimes he’s nice, sometimes not.  This is just funny.

Next is Maino stomping all over Ace Hood’s “Hustle Hard.” This shouldn’t be confused with Maino’s song “Hustle Hard,” or Maino’s website which is called .. you guessed it … www.mainohustlehard.com.  Anyway, it’s Maino.  I haven’t felt dude since he gave me a way to piss off my imaginary haters. Wait. I don’t think I liked that song either. *Kanye shrug*

Moving on, we have Obie Trice throwing a verse on “No Hands.” The strip club banter gets old after a while, but Obie’s delivery is usually pretty good.  All these Northern and Midwestern rappers on these Southern tracks this week is no bueno.  But I have to play the hand I have.

Next up is Joell Ortiz on Birdman’s “Fire Flame.” I don’t know.  I feel like I’m hearing a little Royce in certain parts of Joell’s delivery. He’s dope as usual, just different.  The Birdman verse is on here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Last up is T-Shirt.  Don’t ask. I have no idea.  However, I do know that he picked a great track in Curren$y’s “Record Deals”  (as we noted in the review, lifting the Outkast classic “Mainstream”) and he does a nice job manning the mic.  It’s not as bleak as the Curren$y verse, but just as thoughtful.
