R&B music teeters between struggling and striving depending on the day of the week. Its survival depends on how if morphs with modern sounds and trends as its core fans grow and change. B. Morgan has survived on the fringes of the music for many years but lately it seems like he is ready for the major leagues. His latest track, Wanted, finds DJ Mister Famous riding shotgun and is infused with elements of World music on top of Morgan’s R&B roots for a modern sound
The almost 4-minute track cruises by and doesn’t feel that long, which is a great thing in a market characterized by low attention spans. The track, produced by Famous and O. Banga features staccato claps and lush atmospherics that make you feel like B. Morgan is following a hot girl on the beach of some island and trying to get himself chose. Like most world music/dancehall related songs there is a debt to be paid to Wayne Wondah and his innovative use of autotune and vocal distortion, and the drawback is that we don’t really hear what his voice sounds like. Lucky for B. Morgan, Wanted is built strictly for the dancefloor and the club, so there isn’t a real need to see whether or not he can SANG.
It’s solid. Worthy of legit play in a dimly lit lounge with a red light and cocktails. Good for a two-step with hand on waist. Wanted is definitely on the right side of pump it or dump it and it pushes B. Morgan into the category of someone primed to make some noise. A few more of these heaters and the album will certainly be Wanted.
