Conway the Machine has been having a strong run. 2018-19 was on fire with the Everybody is F.O.O.D series and the whole Griselda crew has just been eating tracks left and right. Conway’s latest, Tito’s Back unites Buffalo’s Treacherous Three for the true grit for which they have become synonymous.
House producer Darringer crafts a slow boiling composition a classy piano with spooky atmospherics humming throughout and low frequency electric guitars at the end of every 8 bars if I’m counting correctly.
Conway and Benny pass the mic back and forth like a new millennium EPMD, passing the burner between them for the bulk of the song. Westside comes through talking his big shit. It’s standard Griselda fare courtesy of Buffalo’s east side, but that standard fare is the definitive hardcore wave right now.
Benny chronicles his swift rise from the streets to the suites, noting:
I went from toting ninas and click-clacking them lamas to walking out of Neiman’s mismatching designers
Tito’s Back is ominous and dope; the hard, face-frowning shit that gets you going. Play it in the whip at night with the AC on but the windows down doing 80 in a 60. Or home in the dark with cognac and a good system. Anything less would be uncivilized. Tito’s Back, from next week’s coming Conway project Look What I Became.
