Action Bronson has been doing more cooking and TVing than rapping lately. The media darling (only reason to watch Vice w/o Desus & Mero) has returned to rhyming . I’d say cooking up marvelous shit to get your mouth watered but he already has Wu-related issues. In lieu of that, here is the latest entree White Bronco.
White Bronco Production
The song is set off in a jazzy haze, with a dreamy piano solo and a saxophone that segues into a cool bounce.A tinkling two step of keys runs atop a dusty boom bam drum with a a groovy bassline riding shotgun. The vibe is totally Showbiz & AG/ digging in the crates rhythm updated with a livelier feel and contemporary construction. The track rides out with a fading horn.
White Bronco Rhymes
Aurally, Bronson is much less Ghostfacey in tone with a lower pitched delivery and less animation than we are used to from him, but it fits the song. Action’s quick with the lines as usual with slick darts (“Swing like Tiger at the Masters”) and usual fat boy self deprication (“20 alligators died for this shit I put my foot in”)
The simple life is all he desires after having proven the naysayers wrong. Bumping classic Janet Jackson with enough money to live well, keep the whip fresh, do good drugs, and live unbothered is the ambition. A bit of delusion (“all these women call me Taye Diggs”) but hey, it’s Hip-Hop and reality has never stood in the way of rapper aspirations.
White Bronco Conclusion
White Bronco is a tasty morsel that recalls the spirit of the early 90s when rap music a bit more eclectic and fun and not specifically targeting regions or dollars. It feels like one of those Pete Rock tracks that was used to save a subpar rapper. Only this time, the rapper is a credible Action Bronson who holds up his end of the bargain. Be on the lookout for the album coming later in the year. White Bronco. I’m a little disappointed at no OJ Simpson reference. Enjoy.
