Marco Polo has a flair for getting cats that you love but haven’t heard in a grip to rhyme over high energy boom bap. This time he managed to get Organized Konfusion to drop some Hypnotical Gasses on his upcoming Port Authority 2 album for the very dope 3-O-Clock. The plunking of guitar strings give way to big drums and splashes of horns that add gravity. Pharoahe’s prodigious flows and dense rhymes are still here but along with that is the fun that he lacked on his solo album W.A.R. It’s an element that brings a stark difference and you can tell he’s happy to be rhyming next to the enigmatic Prince Po. Po takes the story telling approach and falls back on the verbal gymnastics, which is a nice contrast to his partner in rhyme. He weaves his tale of a woman and the kind of shit that can go down in those wee hours in New York City.
Sometimes, even with all the things that go on with a record, it’s just about beats and rhymes. 3-O-Clock wins on both fronts, with the added narrative of a rare Organized Konfusion sighting. That is a win my friends. Be on the lookout for that Port Authority 2. And watch where you step at 3-O-Clock.
