I can’t lie to you. I had zero interest in Roc Marciano and I could not understand why people liked him. Recently I put his Reloaded album in the headphones and walked with it for a few days, and his minimalist approach, along with his crisp diction and Brooklyn street talk reminded me of Sean Price’s no-nonsense approach on Mic Tyson. This latest track, Ruff Town features QB legend Cormega and is more of the same: dirty subway, concrete streets and filthy summer sweltering NYC heat. The track is produced by Roc Marciano and in Ghostface fashion, he’s not really rhyming to the beat. It plays more like background music as the sermon is delivered.
Roc Marciano is no frills. There isn’t much movement in his voice and there are no technical acrobatics. His flow is methodical like an axe murderer, chopping steadily. Cormega is his usual self. Not a fan of his flow or sound but he’s a likeable emcee and he loves this culture. Ruff Town. Enjoy.
