Kids are graduating and Father’s Day is on the way. In the South, school is out for summer. Fire up your grills because Memorial Day is here. After we commemorate the sacrifice of our fallen soldiers, most of us follow our salutes with cocktails. For those who favor the brown juice, Planet Ill has something for your ass, courtesy of cognac maven, Hennessy. Below, we have a wide assortment of drinks and punches; everything you need to get the party started. Who needs Molly, or anything else for that matter when you have an entire arsenal of Hennessy cocktails? Drink responsibly. Don’t get behind the wheel and stay safe this holiday weekend.
SPRING BEE (Above)
1.5 oz Hennessy VS
1/3rd oz Aperol
1 oz Light Honey Chamomile Syrup *(see Syrups and Tinctures below)
1 oz Fresh Squeezed grapefruit juice
1 dash Fee brothers grapefruit bitters (optional)
Garnish: Grapefruit Twist
Method: add all liquids to a shaker tin with ice and shake until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, garnish with a twist of grapefruit.
STINGER SOUR
2 oz Hennessy VS
1 oz Crème de Menthe
.25 oz Simple Syrup
.5 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
1 egg white
Garnish: Mint Leaf
Method: Add all ingredients to a mixing tin without ice, dry shake, add ice and shake again to chill. Strain into a large wine glass and garnish with fresh mint leaf.
FRESH AND CLEAN
1.5 oz Hennessy VS
1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 oz Lavender Syrup *(see Syrups and Tinctures below)
2 dashes Fee brothers cranberry bitters
.5 oz St. Germain
Garnish: Lemon Twist
Method: Shake all ingredients in a shaker tin with ice until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon twist
BERRY LEMONADE PUNCH
1 liter Hennessy VS
600ml Ruby Port
200ml Crème de Muir or Cassis
300ml Simple Syrup
900ml Fresh Lemon Juice
600ml Cranberry/Raspberry Juice
900ml Ginger Ale
1 pint of Blueberries
1 pint of Blackerries
1 pint of Raspberries
1 lemon cut into wheels
Method: Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl and stir to combine before adding a large ice block to chill. Serve with a ladle into punch or rock glasses
Note: this is sized for the Hennessy punch bowl and may need to be adjusted for different vessels.
PUNCH ROYAL
1 liter Hennessy VS
750ml Moet Champagne or Chandon Sparkling white wine
1 liter Apple juice
300ml Simple Syrup
300ml Fresh Lemon Juice
20 Dashes Angostura Orange Bitters
1 bunch Mint
1 Apple cut into wheels
Method: Combine all liquid ingredients except Champagne in a punch bowl slap the mint punch against your hand several times to activate the aromatics, and add the mint and apples to the bowl before adding Champagne and stir to combine before adding a large ice block to chill. Serve with a ladle into punch or rock glasses
