The Grammy Awards have put Justin Timberlake squarely in the spotlight once again. He hit the stage for the first time in 4 years, and while his steeze was a lil more Robin Thicke than the cat that brought sexy back, it’s clear that his fans are more than happy to welcome him back with open arms.
His newest single is Mirrors and he’s using that Grammy stage to bring more shine to the track. Mirrors is a long way from the old Timbaland/Pharrell grooves that powered Timberlake’s last run. This is more syrupy and soft, with very little sexual energy involved. There are Timbo-like atmospherics that add rhythm but don’t have any reason to be there at first inspection but find their way in.
Justin is head over heels in love at his lady love, who has so much in common with him it’s like his image staring back at him. Does that mean that he’s in love with himself? I don’t know about all that, but romance is definitely the name of the game on this one. JT likes what he sees in the mirror. Will we like Mirrors and the rest of the album? Only time will tell.
