2012 can be seen as the year when EDM truly hit the mainstream, after the pretenders to the lifestyle (just about all pop/R&B albums of last year were rife with dance music attempts) were vetted, the music took on a life of its own. The seeds of this revolution were sown 15 years ago with the commercial success of British group, The Prodigy, whose monster hit “Smack My Bitch Up” from seminal third album Fat of the Land, rode a grimy infectious beat and a shit storm of controversy for its supposed misogyny to big sales and critical acclaim as the commercial forefront of the Big Beat dance movement along with others like the Chemical Brothers, Underworld, and Moby to name a few.
Here we are in 2012 and to mark the 15th anniversary of The Prodigy’s classic Fat of the Land, XL recordings is re-releasing the original double LP along with a deluxe version featuring blistering ass shaking remixes by some of todays’ biggest EDM producers including Zeds Dead, Major Lazer, Skrillex, The Glitch Mod and more. Guaranteed to snatch your backside from the boredom zone and fit for vigorous workouts, rage parties and anywhere else music is played at high bpm and volume. Here are a few of the remixes. Thank us later. This drops tomorrow folks.
