Adele’s chart topping juggernaut and Robin Thicke’s consistent delivery of strong music are but two examples of the growing wave of blue eyed soul. While the many contemporary R&B singers have become overly enamored in sex, machismo, begging and club hopping (sigh) genuine emotion and strong songwriting is getting put to work with heartfelt vocals and a top notch production.
The latest to emerge in this subgenre is Alex Boyd, ex-prep schooler introduced to the likes of D’Angelo, Tribe and the sound of those 90’s neo soul artists. Boyd bounced around sounds until finally deciding that this lane suited his sensibilities and now he sets his sights on making history with a debut album slated for 2013 entitled Commit Me on RCA Records. For the uninitiated, here’s a sliver of his talent, a studio acoustic performance of his lead single, “I Wish I Knew.” Get familiar.
Peace.
