Back in 2006, Lil Wayne and DJ Drama dropped The Dedication 2 mixtape to both commercial and critical acclaim. It was the last step that Lil Wayne took towards that best-in-class status and really put him on center stage, divorcing him from his Hot Boyz days and putting his solo career full steam ahead. It was widely heralded and even ended up on best album lists despite its mixtape DNA. It even sold on iTunes without sample clearance. Too bad Tyga’s album couldn’t say the same thing.
Six years later, with Wayne’s superstar status established, but his rapper integrity withstanding blow after blow, perhaps it’s perfect timing that he returns to the scene of his ascension. With Drama back by his side and the pressure of his underlings (Drake & Nicki) ready to surpass him it’s only right that if Lil Wayne is to make his last stand for mic supremacy that it be made here. Without further ado (besides all the times it was pushed back) Planet Ill got that Dedication 4 for you. Enjoy. We might review later to see if it was worth the wait.
