Diplo Sets Out To Blow Your Head With New Magazine

By Odeisel

The magazine is dead. Or so they say. Shrinking ad pages. Repetitive ideas. Editorial shortcuts. When was the last time you parted with some bread for a magazine? Here’s the thing. Not all magazines take the easy way out and those that are groundbreaking usually find a way to draw in viewers and someone is always waiting in the wings with some hit shit. EDM wunderkind Diplo (woop woop) is also known for having that hot shit and he’s planning a quarterly magazine with a concept that will knock your socks off if you’re a music lover.

The tome, “Blow Your Head,” is focused on exploring music genre by genre, country by country. Riding shotgun is photographer Shane McCauley, who worked with Diplo on previous visual project “128 Beats Per Minute.” The first issue? A visit to Jamiaca’s Trenchtown and a visit to Tuff Gong studios, home of the immortal Bob Marley. In addition, they journey to Gee Jam Studios and Sugarman Beach, documenting Jamaica’s most innovative music and culture through photo and this historyof cretain venues.
“Blow Your Head” will be published quarterly and will be presented as a 8 x 10 inch, 96 page, black and white softcover, printed in a limited run.  Pre-orders are available in three different bundles – the standard book, deluxe edition and the deluxe editon with a limited silk screen poster.

“Blow Your Head” officially drops and will be available in stores come October 1st via Picture Box, with a special launch event to follow on October 10th, 7 PM where Diplo and Shane McCauley will be signing magazines at FAMILY (located at 436 N. Fairfax Ave., LA, CA 90036).
