Ever since Jigga barked those words it became clear that the hood isn’t necessarily checking for enlightenment through bars. If you wanted to reach the bourgeoisie you at least had to rock the boulevard as Chuck D once said, but in recent years, the righteous rhymers just haven’t in general had the force of strong production to back their message up. Genre blending producer Max tannon has done a bit to remedy that. His latest mashup project blends some of the strongest “conscious” rappers with hard-driving Punk tracks and is called Mic Check 1234.
Black Star mixed with The Ramones? Deadprez blended with the Sex Pistols? Tannone has done some serious crate digging with this project and the results are fucking awesome. If your musical memory is longer than 10 years you will really appreciate this work. In all, the work comes in at 10 strong and well-arranged tracks. What happens when you infuse the urban spirit of Hip-Hop with the wild rebellion of the Punk Rock movement? Magic. Get it while it’s hot man. Mic Check 1234.
