Everyone that saw the much-maligned Spider-Man 3 knew that the last roundup with that crew. With Sony’s coming July 3rd release of The Amazing Spider-Man, we are getting a glimpse at one of the more tragic figures in the titular hero’s rogues gallery: The Lizard. The Lizard was one of the few Spider-Man villains who was stronger and nearly as fast as the wall-crawler. Tack on his primal rage and Spider-Man’s life was genuinely in danger whenever he faced the monster.
The tragedy of The Lizard was that he was, like most of the early spider villains, a father figure of some sort to Peter Parker. When he isn’t scaled out, The Lizard is Professor Curt Connors, a one armed scientist and scholastic mentor to Peter. Connors studied reptiles and their ability to regenerate limbs in an attempt to regrow his own missing limb. Like ALL comic book experiments it all goes awry and his mind submerged into the reptilian Lizard.
In this trailer, the Lizard is introduced to the Spider-Man movie continuity. The mythology has been changed a bit, as is usually the case in translation but his status as Peter’s professor remains a constant. The clip gives a little background as to the characters movie story and provides enough gravitas to make you recognize how serious a foe The Lizard is. If you are a comics fan, 2012 has given you yet another reason for nerdgasm. Enjoy.
