You know the Planet supports the Mello Music Group in almost everything they do. This latest gem is no exception. Hardcore Hip-Hop complete with scratches, murderous drums and horns courtesy of DJ Soko and his 7” series. This track is called “Stand Up” and features Detroit’s dirtiest, Guilty Simpson and Apollo Brown. Cuff your headphones to your ears and peep.
The drums hammer this track and your ear drums into submission. An ill Lil Fame vocal sample creates all the displacement need for the track to float but it’s buttressed by horn blares that take it even higher. The hard thump just ignites something in your b-boy soul and forces your head to nod. All the moving parts are synched perfectly and at a run time of 2:56, the loop isn’t there long enough to get boring.
Guitly is muscular on this. His tone is domineering and his pace is steady, taking care not to get overpowered by the track. Mackey’s delivery is a little more structured and careful. While he doesn’t get drowned out by the track, his timbre isn’t as in control as Guilty’s. It does however create a solid contrast and his razor to the throat line was the perfect close.
There’s more than one MMG in Hip-Hop and this one take sthe underground route seriously. This track and the rapper son it will have you frowning your face and grabbing your dick if you love Hip-Hop. It’s strictly for the headphones and the home stereo, not rider music, but it does its job well.
Bump it. “Stand Up.”
