Killer Mike’s El-P produced album is dropping next month and the samples available so far find Mike delivering his normal raw edged lyrics about some serious subject matter. The tracks hop scotch from sparse to saturated, leaving all cliche southern sounds in the dust. R.A.P. Music sounds like its going to be a winner.
The most recent offering from the album, “Don’t Die,” is brimming with Killer’s signature hard core chastisement over El-P’s disjointed, arcade-influenced, synth-happy track. There are times when the foundation grows to battle Mike for attention, but Mike still gets his point across.
The short and sweet of it all is the black community has a tense and unique relationship with law enforcement that is able to exist because we allow it. Given, Mikes violent suggestions are probably not the best way to put the brakes on the abuse, but acknowledging the issue is half the battle. If only we could figure out the other half, we would be home free. So take a listen to “Don’t Die” and let us know what you think.
