It’s hard to look at that picture of Trayvon Martin as a parent of a young black man and not see something of your child in it.  My kid has that same Hollister t-shirt and he started growing that same little afro after he decided it wasn’t cool to have a tight fade anymore. The big dark eyes and sincere smile; yes, bits of my son reside in that picture.  But my little man went to school today. Trayvon did not.

It’s hard for people to imagine that Trayvon’s murder isn’t an anomaly, a tragic random act born of fear or hate or both.  But you have to ask yourself how many of these “isolated” occurrences have to happen before the dots are connected.  

George Zimmerman, the self-proclaimed chief neighborhood watchman of  Sanford, Florida, committed himself to protecting his community from black children, reduced Trayvon to a “fucking coon” and killed him for it. The Sanford Police Department obviously has no problem with his actions as they are blaming Martin for his own death.  According to his father, Zimmerman is Hispanic so he can’t be racist.  Oh and he has black friends. 

Sigh.

 At some point, folks have to realize that statement drips of hypocricy and anyone that says it is normally branded a closet bigot.
