Rita Ora has managed to elicit a contract from the powers that be over at Roc Nation and in return they are throwing everything but the kitchen sink into her debut. Will.I.Am, Drake, The-Dream and others have signed up to contribute to the young unknown’s debut. Pays to know people.
Sometime last week, the 1st single, “How We Do,” was premiered in all of its top 40 glory. It’s not a bad song, but we’ve heard it before. Not even a week later here comes a second song, “R.I.P.” Hopefully this isn’t an indication of where her career is going.
“R.I.P.” is another dramatic pop tune with lots of frantic synth and forceful percussion. Tinie Tempah starts us off with tawdry teasing and some of Luda’s cadence for good measure. The Stargate/Chase and Status produced track does whisper dub step and incorporates a great Nneka sample. Ora’s delivery is flat though. I don’t know if she’s trying to impart coolness or she’s not a fan of emotion, but this chick needs to work on adding some flair. She sounds like she doesn’t want to be there. Considering the title, I can’t blame her.

Sadly Drake’s version sounds more feminine and softer than the chick’s.
Song sounds like it was something offered to Rihanna first and she rejected it.
