Nicki Minaj has not been hot in the hood the past couple months. Her whole crew has been the subject of immense clowning, from Weezy’s jeggings, to Drake’s “Common dearing”. She’s been immersed in Pop, silly religious allegory and just wack songs that are a million trillion zillion miles away from that dirty ass staircase that started the hood’s love affair with her. So what does she do? What any smart person would do: grab the hottest hoodstar of the moment and hop on the hottest beat you can find, and throw the old schoolers a bone with a sly reference. Minaj covers all the bases with her new leak from the
Roman Reloaded album, “Beez In The Trap.”
The beat just bangs in the whip, the headphones and wherever the hell you think you are going to be when this detonates. You could be rhyming the ABC’s and you could get away with it on this track. The lows are subterranean, punctuated by digital drops and bloop bleeps that contrast nicely.
Minaj for her part doesn’t go all Sybil on us and kicks none of her trademark baby talk, but there are points where her flow is a bit off. She shouts out just about every hood in North America, presumably as an olive branch for all that pop shit she’s been enamored with lately. 2 Chainz delivers his shtick that has been winning over the Hip-Hop world at the moment. There’s nothing spectacular but enough to keep the sky high Minaj grounded and “human” again. No Barbie plasticity on this track.
Does this make up for that garbage ass Madonna song? The club and the whip will think so, but it remains to be seen whether non Barbies will be willing to forgive and forget. Don’t know if she gives a rat’s ass but at least for a few minutes, she came back to earth. “Beez In The Trap.” Enjoy.
